Diffusion and glow effects for Final Cut Pro

Overview

Diffuser is a Final Cut Pro plugin that adds diffusion filter effects to your footage, softening and beautifying the look of your videos without sacrificing image quality.

Start from a preset: Basic Blur, Zoom Blur, Color Blur (chromatic aberration), Angle Blur, Glow or Custom. All of them have the same controls, just set up differently.

Layer the diffusion types, each with its own opacity and amount, and use Overlay.Range.Limiter to keep the diffusion to the highlights or the shadows.

Shadow.Floor gives milky, lifted shadows, and levels, saturation and color balance controls finish the look.

Five diffusion looks: basic blur, zoom blur, color blur, angle blur and glow, plus a Custom preset.

How to use

In the Effects browser sidebar, click My FCPeffects, then Diffuser (show the sidebar if it is hidden).
Drag a preset, like Diffuser - Glow, onto your clip.
Adjust the opacity and amount of each diffusion type in the Inspector.
Use Overlay.Range.Limiter to limit the diffusion to highlights or shadows, and Overlay.Opacity to dial it all back at once.
For milky shadows, raise Shadow.Floor to about 15, then lower Levels.Shadows.
