Overview

Quick Color is a Final Cut Pro plugin for fast, beautiful color grades, including stylized looks like creamy or milky shadows that Final Cut Pro does not offer on its own.

Start from one of the ready-made presets, or the Custom preset, which leaves your clip untouched until you adjust it. Every preset has the same controls, just set up differently.

Grade with on-screen color wheels in the viewer, or with the color balance, contrast, brightness and saturation controls. Raise.Shadow.Floor and Lower.Highlight.Ceiling give the flat, soft shadows and highlights popular in films.

An overlay layer with its own blend mode, blur and glow adds even more looks.

How to use

In the Effects browser sidebar, click My FCPeffects, then Quick Color (show the sidebar if it is hidden).
Drag a preset onto your clip, or select several clips and double-click a preset.
In the Inspector (Command-4), click the effect's name to use the on-screen color wheels.
For milky shadows, set Raise.Shadow.Floor to about 20 and lower Shadows.Level.
Turn off Show.Color.Wheels before you export.

Can I apply the same grade to many clips?

Yes. Copy the clip and use Paste Attributes on the others, or select the clips and double-click a preset.

How do I get milky, faded shadows?

Raise Raise.Shadow.Floor to about 20, then lower Shadows.Level.

Will the color wheels show in my export?

Yes, if they are still on. Turn off Show.Color.Wheels before exporting.

What does the Custom preset do?

Nothing until you adjust it. It is a neutral starting point with all the same controls.
