What it does

Build your own custom transitions in Final Cut Pro

Start from a preset, like Basic Zoom, Shake, Desaturate, Blur, Bulge, Old TV, Color Flash, Letterbox or Twirl, or build one from the Default.

Mix zoom, rotation, position shifts and shake with blur, bulge, pixelate, color blur, color overlays, letterbox bars, directional blur, twirl and zoom blur. Choose a cut type, hold the middle, and add mirrored outer clones.

Everything is controlled in the Inspector, so one transition can do the job of many.

  • Ready-made presets: zoom, shake, blur, bulge, Old TV, color flash, letterbox, twirl and more.
  • Movement: zoom, rotate, position and anchor point shifts, and randomized shake.
  • Effects: brightness, contrast, sharpen, desaturate, blur, bulge, pixelate and color blur.
  • Color and letterbox: color overlays with blend modes, and animated letterbox bars.
  • Directional, twirl and zoom blur: with angle and position controls.
  • Cut type, hold and outer clones: choose how the cut happens and fill the edges.
How to use
  1. In the Transitions browser sidebar, click My FCPeffects, then Transition Toolkit.
  2. Drag a preset, or Default, between two clips.
  3. Select it, park the playhead over it, and open the Transition tab in the Inspector.
  4. Turn up the effects you want, like Zoom Amount, Shake or Color Blur.
  5. When using Bulge, Shake, Waviness, Pixellate or Twirl, set BG Selector to Background 2.

Mirrored copies of the clips outside their edges, which fill the frame when you zoom or rotate.

Why does BG.Selector matter?

Use Background 2 with Bulge, Shake, Waviness, Pixellate and Twirl so they look right.
